FAQs for Digital nomads

Where is the best city for digital nomads in Bulgaria?

It depends on what you’re looking for. Sofia is the biggest hub for remote work, you’ll find the widest choice of coworking spaces, a buzzing startup scene, fast internet, and plenty of international community events.  If you want an artistic vibe and lower costs, Plovdiv is a favourite among creatives (plus it has great coworking spots at the heart of the city centre). For a work-and-beach balance, Varna and the northern Black Sea coast (think Krapets, Aheloy) combine seaside living with community-driven coworking. If you prefer fresh mountain air, Bansko is Eastern Europe’s top nomad village ( with coliving chalets, daily group activities, and a lively all-year digital nomad community).

Tip: Many nomads actually switch between these. Beach in summer, mountains in winter, Sofia or Plovdiv for the urban fix.

Do coworking spaces offer day passes?

Absolutely. Most coworking spaces in Bulgaria welcome drop-ins - with daily or weekly passes that include Wi-Fi, desk, coffee and sometimes access to community events. Typical day pass rates range from €8 to €20, depending on the city and amenities.

Can I stay long-term in coworking coliving spaces?

Yes! Many coworking spaces in Bulgaria have flexible coliving options for remote workers who want to stay for weeks or even months. Spaces like WorkNomads in Sofia, Burgas Coliving, and Coworking Bansko offer furnished rooms, fast Wi-Fi, shared kitchens, and built-in communities - perfect for longer stays. Outside Coworking in Krapets, for example, gives you an option to park a camper or put up a tent in the backyard.
Pro tip: Some spots offer discounts for stays over 1 month or seasonal packages. Always ask about visa rules if you’re non-EU (see next FAQ!).

Do I need a digital nomad visa in Bulgaria?

For EU/EEA Citizens:

If you’re an EU or EEA citizen, you don’t need a digital nomad visa — you can live and work remotely in Bulgaria freely under EU freedom of movement rules. Just make sure to register your address if you stay longer than 90 days.

For Non-EU Citizens:

As of 2025, Bulgaria is officially introducing a Digital Nomad Visa (Type D) for non-EU/EEA remote workers, freelancers, and online business owners who want to stay for more than 90 days. If you’re planning to work remotely in Bulgaria for just a few weeks or a couple of months, many visitors can stay visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period (depending on your passport).

If you want to stay longer:

The new Digital Nomad Visa allows you to live and work in Bulgaria legally for up to 12 months, with the option to renew if you meet the income and insurance requirements. Keep in mind: your remote work must be for foreign companies or clients — you can’t use the visa to take up a local Bulgarian job.
